Care, Use & Warranty Guidelines

Board Rotation

With regular or heavy use, the center should be rotated on a daily basis to evenly distribute wear across the board. Rotating the center helps extend the life of the playing surface and maintain consistent performance over time.

Indoor Use Only

Widdy dart boards are intended for indoor use only. Exposure to outdoor conditions—including temperature fluctuations, humidity, moisture, or other environmental elements—may compromise the integrity of the board materials (paper or wood).

Any damage resulting from outdoor use or exposure to environmental elements will void eligibility for return or exchange. Please refer to the Return Policy for additional details.

Proper Mounting

Widdy boards are designed to be hung on walls only using appropriate mounting hardware.

Please do not use dart stands, floor stands, tripod stands, or any other alternative mounting solutions. These mounting methods can place stress on the frame and board structure and may lead to damage.

If any part of the board or frame becomes damaged or compromised due to improper mounting, alterations, or the use of unsupported mounting systems, the warranty will be null and void. Items affected in this way will not be eligible for return, exchange, or refund from Widdy Darts.

Normal Wear

Dartboards are designed to absorb repeated dart impacts. Over time, normal wear and surface marks will occur as part of regular gameplay.

Minor surface wear, compression marks, small punctures, or gradual changes in the playing surface are considered normal and are not considered manufacturing defects.

Ink and Surface Flaking

Widdy paper dart boards use a traditional silk-screen printing process. As darts repeatedly strike the surface, minor flaking of printed ink may occur in high-impact areas. This is a normal characteristic of paper dart boards and does not affect gameplay or the structural integrity of the board.

Surface flaking caused by normal play is not considered a defect and does not qualify for return, exchange, or refund.

Dart Condition

Only properly maintained darts with smooth, undamaged steel tips, barrels, and feathers should be used when playing.

Darts with bent, burred, chipped, or excessively sharp tips, damaged barrels, or worn/missing feathers may damage the playing surface or frame. Damage caused by defective or improperly maintained darts is not covered under warranty and will not qualify for return or exchange.

Impact Damage

Widdy dart boards are designed specifically for use with standard steel-tip darts. Striking the board with any other object—including tools, knives, blunt objects, or non-dart projectiles—may damage the board or frame.

Any damage caused by non-dart impacts or misuse of the product is not covered under warranty and will void eligibility for return or exchange.

Commercial Use

Boards installed in bars, restaurants, clubs, leagues, or other commercial environments may experience significantly higher usage than typical residential play.

While Widdy boards are built for durability, excessive use associated with commercial environments may accelerate normal wear. Claims resulting from heavy commercial usage may be evaluated differently and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Storage and Environmental Conditions

Improper storage can affect the structural integrity of the board materials.

Boards should be stored in dry, climate-controlled indoor environments. Storing boards in garages, sheds, basements with high humidity, or other uncontrolled environments may cause warping, separation, or deterioration of materials.

Damage caused by improper storage conditions is not covered under warranty.

Product Integrity

Widdy dart boards are carefully manufactured and inspected prior to shipment. To maintain product integrity:

  • Do not alter, modify, or adjust the board or frame.

  • Do not attempt repairs or structural modifications.

  • Do not perform any actions that may compromise the construction of the board or its components.

Any modifications or alterations that affect the board, frame, or internal components may void warranty protections.

Quality Concerns

If a dartboard (paper or wood) or darts arrive with a concern out of the box, please contact Widdy Customer Service before using the product.

Please do not attempt to repair, alter, or modify the board or darts before contacting us, as doing so may affect warranty eligibility.

All product concerns are reviewed and addressed on a case-by-case basis by the Widdy team.

For assistance, please contact: customerservice@widdy.com

Gameplay Variance & Material Characteristics

Widdy dart boards are produced using traditional manufacturing methods and natural materials. As a result, minor variations in surface texture, print alignment, color tone, and compression may occur between boards or production batches.

These characteristics are normal and are part of the manufacturing process. Minor cosmetic variations that do not affect gameplay or structural integrity are not considered manufacturing defects and do not qualify for return, exchange, or refund.

Alterations, Repairs, and Refurbishing

Widdy dart boards and darts are designed to be used in their original manufactured condition. Any alterations, repairs, refurbishing, or modifications to the board, frame, internal components, or darts will void the warranty.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Repainting or refinishing the playing surface

  • Re-screening or altering printed areas

  • Sanding, cutting, or reshaping the board surface

  • Removing or replacing frame components

  • Attempting to repair internal materials

  • Refurbishing or rebuilding the board structure

  • Modifying or altering darts, including barrels, tips, or feathers, beyond normal maintenance

Any board or darts that have been altered, repaired, refurbished, or modified in any way that affects their original condition will not be eligible for warranty coverage, return, exchange, or refund from Widdy Darts.

If you believe your board or darts may have a defect, please contact Widdy Customer Service before attempting any repair or modification so the issue can be reviewed.

Limitation of Liability

Widdy Darts products are intended for recreational use in accordance with these Care, Use & Warranty Guidelines. Widdy Darts is not responsible for any damage to property, injury, or personal harm resulting from improper use, mounting, alterations, or failure to follow these guidelines.

Use of Widdy dart boards and darts is at the customer’s own risk. Widdy Darts’ liability for any claim arising from the use of its products is limited to the original purchase price of the product.

This limitation applies to, but is not limited to, damages resulting from misuse, commercial use, exposure to environmental elements, improper storage, or the use of modified or altered boards or darts.

What Is American Darts?

American darts is a special type of darts game mainly played in the United States, particularly in the Mid-Atlantic region. It is distinct from the more widely recognized English darts, featuring unique equipment, gameplay, and cultural significance. American darts uses a wooden dartboard, different from the standard English dartboard. The darts used in American darts are also wooden and have feather flights, giving them a traditional and nostalgic feel.

History and Origins

The origins of American darts trace back to the early 20th century, with its popularity growing significantly during World War I. The game became a favorite pastime in bars and social clubs, particularly in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Its development was influenced by the materials available and the social environment of the time, leading to a game that emphasizes skill, precision, and social interaction.

American Dartboards

American dartboards are made of basswood and have several distinctive features. The end grain of the basswood faces out, which helps darts stick to the board more effectively. Embedded in the board are thin steel wires that separate the scoring sections, as opposed to the wider steel dividers found on English boards. High-quality American dartboards often feature a rotatable center, allowing the board to wear more evenly over time. This design extends the life of the dartboard and maintains the quality of play.

In American-style darts, the dartboard is typically mounted with the center of the bullseye at 5 feet 3 inches (1.60 m) from the floor, and the throw line (oche) is placed 7 feet 3 inches (2.21 m) from the board. This results in a throw line distance of approximately 106.4 inches (2.70 m) from the center of the bullseye to the throw lin

Popular Games

One of the most popular games played on American dartboards is "Baseball Darts." In this game, players score points by hitting sections of the board that correspond to baseball bases, such as singles, doubles, and triples. The game can be played with any number of players, in singles, doubles, or team formats, making it versatile and suitable for various social settings. Other popular games include "Cricket" and "Count-Up," each with its own set of rules and scoring systems that add variety and challenge to the play.

Dart Design and Gameplay

The darts used in American darts are heavier and longer than those used in English darts. They typically weigh around 20-30 grams and measure up to 6 inches in length. The design of these darts requires a throwing technique that uses more force. The flights, or wings, of the darts are also larger, which influences their aerodynamic properties and stability in flight. This design creates a different gameplay experience, focusing on power and control.

Social and Cultural Significance

American darts holds a special place in the social fabric of the regions where it is played. The game is often seen as a casual, recreational activity enjoyed in bars and clubs. It brings people together, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. Tournaments and leagues exist, but they are typically more informal and community-oriented compared to the highly organized and professional scene of English darts.

American Darts vs. English Darts

Darts is a game of skill and precision enjoyed around the world, but the game takes on different forms depending on where it’s played. American darts and English darts are two prominent variations, each with distinct equipment, rules, and cultural contexts. Here's a closer look at how these two versions differ.

Equipment and Board Setup

American Darts

American dartboards are typically 18 inches in diameter, which is slightly smaller than their English counterparts. They are often made from basswood, a material that has specific characteristics for dartboard construction. The end grain of the basswood faces outward, which helps darts stick to the board more effectively. Additionally, the board features thin steel wires that separate scoring sections, rather than the wider steel dividers found on English boards. Many high-quality American dartboards come with a rotatable center, allowing the board to wear more evenly over time. This design extends the life of the board and maintains a consistent playing experience. American dartboards are used in popular games like American Dart Baseball, which has been a staple in bars and clubs in the Mid-Atlantic region since World War I. The game can be played with any number of players, including singles, doubles, or team formats.

English Darts

English dartboards are generally larger, with a diameter ranging between 18 and 20 inches. They are traditionally made of bristle, which is more durable and provides a different playing surface compared to basswood. The English dartboard features thin metal wires, known as "spiders," that divide the board into scoring segments. These thin wires help to minimize bounce-outs and improve scoring accuracy. The segments on an English dartboard include single, double, and triple scoring areas, along with the bullseye and outer bull. The design and materials used in English dartboards contribute to a distinct playing experience, with an emphasis on durability and precision.

Dart Design and Gameplay

American Darts

The darts used in American darts are generally heavier and longer than their English counterparts. They typically weigh between 20 and 30 grams and measure up to 6 inches in length. This design requires players to use more force when throwing, influencing the overall playing technique. The flights, or wings, of American darts are larger, which affects their aerodynamic properties and stability in flight. This design creates a gameplay experience focused on power and control. The throwing technique for American darts often involves a more robust arm motion to accommodate the weight and size of the darts.

English Darts

English darts are usually lighter, weighing between 18 and 26 grams, and are shorter in length compared to American darts. The lighter weight and shorter design favor a more precise and controlled throwing style. The flights on English darts are smaller and more streamlined, which helps with accuracy and aerodynamics. The lighter darts and smaller flights contribute to a gameplay experience that emphasizes finesse and precision. Players using English darts typically employ a more refined throwing technique to maximize accuracy.

Rules and Scoring

American Darts

In American darts, the rules and scoring systems vary depending on the game being played. One of the most popular games is "Baseball Darts," where players score points by hitting sections of the board that correspond to baseball bases—single, double, and triple. The game is often played with cumulative scoring, where players add up their points each turn. Another popular game is "Cricket," where players aim to hit specific numbers on the board to close out sections and score points. Scoring in American darts is generally cumulative and can be more relaxed compared to English darts.

English Darts

English darts feature a range of games, with "501" being one of the most popular. In "501," players start with a score of 501 and aim to reduce their score to exactly zero by hitting specific areas on the dartboard. The scoring is subtractive, meaning players must hit their final dart in the designated "double" area to win the game. Other common games include "Cricket," where players aim to close out numbers 15 through 20 and the bullseye, and "Around the Clock," where players attempt to hit each number on the board in sequence. The scoring system in English darts often requires strategic planning and precision to reach exactly zero and secure a victory.

Cultural Significance

American Darts

In the United States, darts is often seen as a casual and recreational activity enjoyed in social settings like bars and clubs. While there are tournaments and leagues, they are generally less formal and less prominent compared to other sports. The emphasis in American darts is on social interaction and enjoyment rather than competitive play. The game's cultural presence is strong in areas like Pennsylvania and New Jersey, where it has become a cherished pastime.

English Darts

In England, darts is a professional sport with a significant cultural impact. The game is widely televised, and major tournaments attract large audiences and considerable media attention. English darts players often aspire to compete at the highest levels, and many have achieved fame and recognition within the sporting community. The sport has a rich tradition and is associated with a high level of competitive play, with dedicated leagues and tournaments that highlight the skill and precision of top players.
